Actividades a realizar con niños en Nerja

Nerja lies on the coast of Malaga and is arguably one of the best areas in Europe with the best weather. Besides its peaceful atmosphere, its attractive beaches and coves and its restaurants where you can enjoy paellas and fried fish, as well as the possibility of doing activities with children on holiday.

Caves of Nerja

Children can experience the world of prehistory up close through a visit to the Nerja Caves, which holds the first cave paintings on the Iberian Peninsula. The cave is found 158 metres above sea level and has an entrance opened for visitors in 1960, one year after its discovery. In 2006 it was declared an asset of cultural interest.

The Nerja Cave offers educational visits and comprehension games for children. A further bonus is that children under the age of 5 get in free of charge. In addition, outside the cave, there is a large picnic area and a children’s playground for the little ones to have fun.

Detunda Botanical Garden

Besides the history class, children can extend their knowledge of nature with a visit to the extensive Detunda botanical garden, which is the flora and vegetation of the mountain ranges of Malaga and Granada.

From the Cueva de Nerja gardens, it is possible to reach the Ermita de San Isidro, built in the mid-19th century. Its walls preserve the remains of engravings from that period, possibly made by shepherds. The hermitage is over the walls of the old cemetery of Maro, and every May 15, one of the most popular fiestas in the town, the pilgrimage of San Isidro, is held here.

Cave of Nerja-Almijara Trail

Once you have visited the cave, you can enjoy a family walk around the mountain range that passes behind the monument to the discoverers. It is a low-difficulty route, and everything is waymarked. This course is perfect for enjoying nature and the views of the Axarquia from the mountains with the family’s youngest members.

Nerja is known for being one of the most attractive villages on the coast of Malaga, given its wide range of beaches and coves. Its services and quality have made it one of the most popular beaches. Next to the mouth of the river Chillar, we find the Playa del Chucho, which is much smaller than the earlier ones and quieter.

Kayak route around the cliffs and Maro

A low difficulty activity suitable for many families with children is a kayak trip from Nerja along the cliffs to Maro. It is an exciting walk-through among caves, waterfalls, and corners where it is possible to snorkel and discover the seabed and Posidonia.
