Climbing the Pico del Cielo mountain

The Pico del Cielo meaning “Heaven’s Peak” in Spanish is situated in the Sierras de Tejeda Almijara y Alhama National Park. The peak rises 1,508 m above sea level and the route is best enjoyed during winter months when the temperatures are cooler. The route up the mountains begins from the famous Nerja caves and can last up to 8 hours, but the views from the top are well worth the climb and you can take in the 360 degree views of the Mediterranean sea. Guided tours to the mountains can also be organized.

Explore the Nerja Caves

This majestic Nerja cave network was uncovered in 1959 by a group of children from Maro and is now one of Nerja’s most popular attractions. It boasts one of the world’s largest columns according to the Guinness Book of Records and also is home to some of the earliest Neanderthal cave paintings dating back 42,000 years! A trip to the caves is a must and an ideal excursion for families.

Visit the King’s Path

Just one hour and a half by car from Nerja is the famous Caminito del Rey, a trail hugging the cliffs along a dramatic gorge which was once one of the most dangerous walkways in Spain, but since 2015 it has been repaired and reopened to tourists and is now a day trip suitable for families and nature lovers. Visitor numbers are restricted so remember to book your tickets early!

Enjoy a game of golf

The Costa del Sol is renowned for its stunning golf courses and Baviera Golf is a beautiful green with 18 holes in La Caleta de Velez that is only a short 20-minute drive from Nerja city itself and is ideal for those who enjoy golf and nature.
