Nerja offers a wide range of interesting activities for tourists. In our small town, you can find not only heavenly beaches, but other types of tourist activities such as hiking, outdoor activities, cultural festivals, gastronomy tours, etc.

Furthermore, there are two popular places in our city not usually detailed in the tourist guides: the city centre and the area near the Parador. In this post, we tell you everything you need to know about visiting them.

Area near the Parador of Nerja

The Parador of Nerja is, without a doubt, the most emblematic hotel in the city. Paradores are a chain of Spanish public hotels with a long history and currently manage 97 hotels throughout Spain.

The most special thing about Paradores is that many of its hotels are emblematical historic buildings, making a stay an adventure for history lovers. Moreover, if the hotel is not a historic building, it usually is situated in the best location in the city.

This is the case of the Parador of Nerja, which has elegant facilities, large gardens and stunning sea views.

But, the main issue of this Spanish hotel chain is, on one hand, its high occupancy and the lack of availability in any of its hotels (this being the case of the Parador of Nerja). On the other hand, Paradores usually have a high price that is not affordable for many families.

For this reason, many tourists look for an apartment in the Parador area, enjoying the views and activities of the area without having to part with a large amount of money per night.

In this area, you can enjoy both Burriana beach (which is next to the Parador) and the activities on offer: children’s games, restaurants, shops, cocktail bars … the selection of tourism services on offer at Burriana beach is the most extensive of all Nerja beaches.

Very close to the Parador you will also find Capistrano Beach. It is a small natural bay that has crystal clear waters and fewer people than the more crowded beaches. Without a doubt, it is the ideal beach if you are looking to disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.

Nerja Centre

Nerja has a busy, well-maintained historic centre, which preserves the aesthetics of the Andalusian people, with its white houses and colourful flowers typical of Andalusia.

The centre of Nerja is made up of small streets full of shops, bars and restaurants.

If you visit the centre of Nerja you cannot miss the Church of the Saviour that was built in 1697 and is located just in front of the City Hall (which can also be visited). Once you have finished this visit, if you continue walking along the avenue you will find the Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe), probably the most iconic place in Nerja. It is difficult to find a more incredible and impressive sea view than that of the Balcony of Europe; on clear days you can even see Africa.

The most commercial street in the centre of Nerja is called Pintada Street, and there you will find all kinds of establishments as well as souvenir shops. If you have any queries during your visit to Nerja, you can go to the Information Office located in the lower part of the City Hall. There they will advise you on the must-visit places of interest in the city and recommend a tour so that you do not miss anything whilst you visit the city.
