Nerja is a place that leaves no one indifferent, from its beaches, mountains, narrow streets and friendly people who live in this beautiful white village.
There is a place in the south of Spain that you still don’t know: Nerja, an Andalusian village on the shores of the Mediterranean, which keeps its charm.
Miles and miles of beaches, and you’ll always find them ready to enjoy sunbathing or practising any water sport, such as scuba diving, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, etc.
Today we present Nerja as a safe tourist destination to enjoy a few days as a couple or with friends.
We want to encourage tourists or visitors coming to Nerja to experience it fully.
Nerja offers you the chance to discover its natural resources and possibilities for active tourism, its cultural heritage and the history of its streets, its fiestas and customs, and its rich gastronomy.
In addition, we offer you the places to visit and our museum rooms, places to stay, where to eat, or where to spend some leisure time.
Experience Nerja in all its splendour, its gastronomy, neighbours, beaches. Its historic centre, cared for down to the last detail, is waiting for you.
Enjoy sunrise with the sound of the sea waves, the embers of the espetos malagueños. But if you are more of a mountain person, feel the silence of nature.
The caves of Nerja
The famous Nerja Caves are in Maro, which belongs to Nerja. It was discovered in 1959 when a group of teenagers from Nerja were walking around at night looking for bats. The cave of Nerja has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

We suggest a 45-minute family stroll through a cave with more prehistoric artistic and symbolic manifestations than you should not miss.
There are three galleries, although currently, only the tourist gallery is accessible.
Curiously enough, the cave has 589 cave paintings from the Upper Palaeolithic and recent prehistoric periods.
The Balcón de Europa
The Balcón de Europa can be considered the most photographed spot in Nerja.

A palm-lined promenade along the edge of a low cliff, once an ancient 9th-century fortress. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Mediterranean Sea, the stretches of beaches and coves that Nerja offers, and the mountain range that the town has behind it.
Both Nerjeños and tourists who visit Nerja, locals and tourists come to the Balcón de Europa to enjoy the views, stroll around this magnificent cliff or sit on one of its terraces to enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine, tapas, espetos and cold beers.
The Church of El Salvador
Nearby is the Church of El Salvador, found in C/ Iglesia, next to the Balcón de Europa, the Tourist Office and the Town Hall.

This church was finished in 1697 and the bell tower in 1724, at the end of the 18th century. El Salvador was enlarged and restored in 1997.
The church has a baroque-academic style divided into three aisles separated by pillars and semi-circular arches.
In the world, it is one of the few temples with representations of the three Archangels; hence the patron saint of Nerja is St. Michael.
During summer you can go swimming at the beach. Otherwise- since you are in the Costa del Sol, where we can enjoy this microclimate all year round-, you can take a walk and enjoy the delicious “espetos” or “pescaditos malagueños”, or maybe a paella… in one of the many beach bars that Nerja offers.
Burriana Beach
So right now, we are talking about Burriana Beach; this beach in Nerja is awarded every year with the blue flag. Besides the fact that it is a beach awarded the Q for Tourism Quality since 2016. With 800 metres long and 40 metres wide, its sands make it one of the busiest beaches in Nerja.

Take the lift from the Parador de Nerja, and you can access this beach directly to enjoy all its charms.
Here you can practise many water activities: kayaking, paddle, surfing, boat trips. You can take a route to discover the beautiful cliffs of Maro.
Something else great about this beach is that, if you haven’t had time to plan to bring your food or refreshments for a day at the beach, there are shops and businesses where you can buy anything from an umbrella to a hammock to lie on or a chair. Along the promenade, you will also find ice-cream parlours and cafés.
For those who like the sea very much, you can visit the diving centre Costa del Sol, where you can either book a piece of equipment or organise a route along the cliffs, where you will see a lot of flora and fauna. You will also find ice-cream parlours and cafés along the walk in the promenade.
