If you are visiting Nerja, you cannot forget to stop at one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. Enjoy a beach with crystal clear water and no crowds within a few kilometres of the centre of Nerja. Ideally, it would be best if you arrived early in the morning to enjoy the most incredible sunrise of your life. Here we explain what activities you can do and how to get to the beach of Maro so that you can discover how fascinating this cove of Nerja is.
The beach or cove of Maro is one of the most important and recommended beaches of Nerja. It is a clean beach surrounded by beautiful scenery, crops, reeds, and a gorgeous turquoise sea. It consists of 500 meters of coarse sand and crystal-clear water that will bring you breath-taking views under the sea of corals and fish hidden among the rocks.
How to get to Maro beach from Nerja
Maro beach can be reached from Nerja by taking the N-340 towards Almería. Turn off at the first exit to enter Maro on reaching the roundabout at the Cueva de Nerja. Continue straight through the town and take the first exit t a small roundabout after the Hotel Playa Maro. Continue along the road between the conservatories. If you arrive at the height of the summer season, you will see people parking on the side of the road or the roadside. Eventually, you will come to a small square with some parking spaces and a sign saying that you have arrived at Nerja’s Maro beach. Remember that it is forbidden to park beyond the barrier, even if it is up.

Diving and snorkelling at Maro beach
Another of the most recommended activities to enjoy is diving or snorkelling. This beach has low waves, which gives the water a transparent blue colour that improves the visibility during the diving.
Being a natural area, fishing is forbidden. This means plenty of fish on the seabed is available for everyone to see. Its rocks shelter many protected marine species. The most popular are caves, corals, sponges, and anemones. Diving with such a rich fauna is indescribable.
There are lovely places for the most experienced divers, small and large sea caves. One of the companies offering these services is Nerja Dive Resort. You can book or find out more information on their website.
